Where the
earth is red

Short Documentary • 6 mins.

Where The Earth Is Red was created for BSCP, an organization that connects students from underrepresented communities to careers in the biomedical life sciences. At the center of the story is Dominique, a student scientist whose journey embodies BSCP's mission. Production took the Anthem team to Zuni, New Mexico — reflecting the geographic and human breadth of work BSCP has done quietly, and at scale, for thirty years.

DIRECTOR’S Notes:

I first encountered BSCP at their annual gala — I was stunned by the brief bio and credentials shared about each student award winner. One sketch in particular stood out - Dominique’s. Her path spanned homelessness on the Zuni Reservation in New Mexico to Brown University, where she was a PhD candidate studying brain cancer, and back again to Zuni. I could see the red earth and open skies in my mind’s eye as I listened from the audience. So when BSCP later called seeking guidance for how to communicate their mission, I had a ready answer: don’t tell the viewer what BSCP does, let Dominique show them.
