Growing Edge
Posted by Erik Jacobs on 2011-11-10 11:14:56.
Recently we've been in full production mode on projects for a couple of really great clients. One of them is the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, who has commissioned us to produce photos and video for their upcomming 75th Anniversary Gala. The creative process, from concept, script development and story boarding to editing and sound design has been a wonderfully collaborative process between Anthem's team and the project directors at BC. As a result, the project has been a departure for us from our realm of photo and video and has thrust us into the world of animated typography and motion graphics. Animated text can be a powerful tool for communication (as seen here in our favorite example called "Girl Effect") and we're thrilled to have a client who is open to exploring it with us. The piece has been uniquiely challenging and inspiring and we can't wait to share it with you. Below is a tear sheet with one of our portraits used in the 75th anniversary Magazine.
Video Lecture for Photographers
Posted by Erik Jacobs on 2011-02-09 16:05:47.
For those folks in video production and the photographers who are making the transition, Anthem would like to help. Consulting is an important part of what we do here and Dina our Creative Director recently gave a lecture to the Boston Press Photographer Association on switching from photo to video. It was an informative night and if you missed out, don't despair. More events may be in the works. If this is something that may interest you, please be in touch and we'll keep you up to date about upcoming events. Thanks to our friends at Rule Camera Boston for hosting the last event.

"Born With a Broken Heart" video premier on NPR
Posted by Erik Jacobs on 2010-12-27 12:02:53.
Our most recent project, a music video we shot and produced for the David Wax Museum, has been premiered on NPR's All Songs Considered blog! We will be posting it here for everyone to view soon, along with some very fun still photographs we shot. But until then, you check it out at here.
In order to give you some background about the thought process behind the shoot here are some thoughts by Dina Rudick, Director at Anthem Multimedia. "We didn't want to 'interpret' the song with our music video or overpower its meaning with a heavy-handed concept," said Dina Rudick who directed the video, "but we also weren't interested in a folksy-cool collage of imagery set to a soundtrack. The video has a loose narrative and employes several symbolic through-lines, but we fuzzed out any hard lines of 'definite' meaning so that the video could embody the song: soulful and spunky while remaining lighthearted."

The Boston / Marilac Connection

The small town of Marilac in southeastern Brazil is heavily supported with money sent by workers illegally in the United States, including more than 80 who have been employed by the Upper Crust, a Boston-area chain of pizza shops. This story, shot and produced by Dina Rudick is the complicated relationship between a Boston pizza empire and a tiny town that helped build it.

Dina, Dylan and Erik recently finished an intense but exciting two-day video shoot with The David Wax Museum. It was a whirlwind production for everyone complete with pre-dawn casting calls, teeth chattering rides in the bed of a pick-up, busking scenes on the subway and some hilarious improv performances by band members David Wax and Suz Slezak. Stay tuned for video outtakes. For now, here are a few photos of our crew hard at work.
The David Wax Museum made it's debut this year at the Newport Folk Festival is preparing to release their new album "Everything is Saved", by February of 2011 (hopefully!). The video is based on the first song from the album "Born with a Broken Heart" and it is certain to get your toes-a-tapping!

Ever wonder what you can do with a couple of friends who are incredibly talented musicians and a handful of friends who just have no shame? As a 30th birthday present to Dina and as an answer to her Valentines Day Video, Erik took it upon himself to find out. This is a 4-minute music video produced from a song Erik originally sang at Dina's birthday party. Watch if you dare. A special thanks to the David Wax Museum for helping out on this piece.

On a personal, and very silly, note, here is the Valentine's Day video card that Dina made for Erik (they're married) while he was away for a week on a shoot. If you listen to NPR, you'll get most of the jokes.
